So is the whole world going to have a complete eclipse? The public is making a party out of this in the U.S. for sure. Guess it has not happened in quite a number of years.

Big deal. Not.

Wait, is this another rapture thing? Are people gonna float up to heaven like helium balloons on that day?

I remember a solar eclipse in January 1979 but I was in second grade, we all went to school early.

Bea, I don't know who all will be affected, but Oregon is supposed to get a ton of visitors to watch the eclipse.

I find these events interesting, even though I've never been able to see to witness it directly.

I suppose I could point an iPhone running Light Detector upward and listen to the pitch drop (eeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrwwwwwwwmmmmm), but moving my hand toward the lense accomplishes the same thing and isn't time sensitive.
All those people staring at the sky without eye protection are gonna go blind.

On further research about this when I saw the topic yesterday, I noted that there are several hotels, motels etc square in the middle of the area that's supposed to be effected the most which have been booked for years in advance by sky watchers. However, I do hope that novice sky watchers will take extra precautions and make sure to have all the necessary protections, because this really is dangerous stuff.

I also really do hope that we have our tryphids securely locked up, just in case bad things happen.

"tryphids" ? What's a tryphid?

I reads all the time.
I also have seen these. It is nature, so what you gonna do?
You can't run away, now can you?
Oh, unless you've got a starship handy.
Laughing.
They are pretty interesting looking however.
Humans, I believe, are always trying to make something out of these happenings to make them more mysterious, or whatever.
Remember the big moon a few months ago?

The Day of the Triffids is a 1951 post-apocalyptic novel by the English science fiction author John Wyndham. It is about a plague of blindness that befalls the entire
Guess I'll not worry over much about that now.

Post 14 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 09-Aug-2017 19:24:44

Naw. It be frustrating actually.
All these people would be trying to borrow your canes and stuff.
Laughing.
You can't get money from the bank, because, well, how they gonna know?
These aren't totally dark by the way.

Here you go. This might be of interest.
7) On August 21, 2017 millions of people will view a total solar eclipse as it passes through the United States. However, for the visually impaired, or others who are unable to see the eclipse with their own eyes, the Eclipse Soundscapes Project delivers a multisensory experience of this exciting celestial event:

We're hoping the smoke is gone from the atmosphere by the time all those people come out here to see it. What a disappointment it will be for them if it's as hazy then as it is now ... reports of this all over the place out here.

Well, the world is still turning, or I belive so.
The only problem is I'm still blind.
Everyone else saw the event just fine, and still are seeing.
This is a good thing of course.
Laughing.

You could feel the event to a certain extent. I mean it got a bit colder.
I'd say the vibe is kind of a thing too, but I can't prove that.
Never used to buy into that whole thing but the pagans and plant people and them have often talked about that sort of stuf ... I'd say there was some sort of vibe around that time, but I'm not experienced with such things enough to say what. Sure, I know, people like I have been will say that it's all manufactured by the human mind. Anymore, I don't know, but I'll chill with it anywhay.

Post 21 by Remy (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 22-Aug-2017 13:15:08

Plant people? Reminds me of an old science fiction short story taking place in the desert. Anyone even remotely connected to harming the environment, driving a car, cutting up vegitables, having a garden (sort of odd) began turning into plants as the result of a strange fog. Eventually it spread to the whole world.

Post 22 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Tuesday, 22-Aug-2017 14:31:47

Nothing happened where I live. No cooler weather or darkness whatsoever. Go figure, the media was hyping yet another thing up.

Post 23 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 22-Aug-2017 14:36:41

Just a bit windy here. Had to put my chin strap tighter on my hat was all.
Laughing.
But, if you think about it, if the sun gets covered, well, it will be cooler.
